The Guest House By Rumi: Read By Kim Carmen Walsh
Rumi’s The Guest House is a gentle but powerful reminder: Being human means feeling deeply. And every feeling, no matter how uncomfortable, is worthy of welcome.
This poem doesn’t ask us to suppress what’s painful. It invites us to open the door. To meet each emotion as a guest: transient and full of meaning.
As Rumi writes: “This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival…”
Many of the witchy souls I work with carry shame around the intensity of what they feel. They’ve been told they’re too sensitive, too emotional, too much.
But sensitivity is not a flaw. It’s a form of knowing.
In spiritually oriented therapy, we don’t try to banish difficult feelings. We learn how to make space for them. Sadness. Anger. Numbness. Longing. Each one has something to tell us, if we’re willing to listen.
That’s why I love this poem. It doesn’t promise ease, but it offers presence. It reminds us that even our hardest moments are part of something meaningful.
If this stirred something in you, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
I offer spiritually oriented therapy for witchy souls and spiritual seekers who would like to learn how to meet their inner world with compassion. Book a free 30-minute intro call so we can explore what you’re looking for and see if I might be a good fit.
